Story : England - Carabi, 1750. - Shanna Thahern, beautifulst daughter of English merchant owner of a island of the Caribbeanses, comes sent from the father to London for a year in order to find a husband between noble English. But Shanna does not find the man of its dreams and in order not to be forced to marry someone chosen one from the promised father like, thinks well to resolve the problem marrying a person under sentence of death, the fascinating Ruark Beauchamp, a man with a noble, but accused name of homicide. He chip ax this wedding in exchange for one night of love, by now sure to end on the scaffold. But the destiny decides various. Shanna leaves again for the Americas, while Ruark Beauchamp is saved, sold like boarded slave and for the islands of the South…. Here, he comes acquired just from Thahern and, fatally the two spouses find again themselves: it is the slave, she it daughter of the master.
Problematic situation, but Shanna very is decided not to reveal its secret.
Of the rest, Ruark is them under the false name and all it can be hidden.
What he is more arduous to hold hidden but is desire, the passion that pushes two one towards the other. Shanna cannot make less than Ruark, neither he of she: always with, in spite of the difficulties.
A terrible attack of pirates, an adventurous travel in the colonies, a disturbing detection, until the beautiful end that finally sees the triumph of the love…

Beginning saying that it is my preferred book… I find it a huge novel of the beautifulst love and of the Woodiwiss.
It does not bore and it does not confuse, the historical line allows to living all the love between Ruark and Shanna and the incredible dramatic turn of events render it exciting.

Shanna, is the rich usual child vitiated, that it knows to manipulate the men of its life, like: its father, Pitney its faithful servant and tries to make it also with its young husband… until when kidnapped from the pirates and forced see again all for love of Ruark, he grows and it becomes the heroin… brave woman and ready in love woman to all for its love.

Ruark, is the typical fascinating hero, with a character who fold also not loving Shanna with all if same, much to succeed to hold them head… and to make it to grow and to love without reservoirs of that it is and not of that it could represent.

Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, creator of the modern historical romance, Born on June 3, 1939 in Louisiana, died Friday, July 6, 2007 in Minnesota. She wrote her first book in longhand while living at a military outpost in Japan.

Trama: Inghilterra 1750. Shanna Thahern, bellissima figlia di un facoltoso mercante possidente di  un'isola dei Caraibi, viene mandataper un anno dal padre a Londra per trovare un marito tra i nobili inglesi. Ma Shanna non trova l’uomo dei suoi sogni e per non essere costretta a sposare qualcuno che non ama, pensa di risolvere il problema sposando un condannato a morte, l'affascinante Ruark Beauchamp, un’ uomo con un nome nobile, ma accusato di omicidio . Ruark accetta questo matrimonio in cambio di una notte d'amore, ormai certo di finire sul patibolo. Ma il destino decide diversamente. Shanna non mantiene la promessa fatta e Ruark giura vendetta. Lei riparte per le Americhe come vedova, mentre Ruark Beauchamp si salva, venduto come schiavo e imbarcato per le isole del Sud.... Qui,  viene acquistato proprio da Thahern e i due sposi si ritrovano: lui è lo schiavo, lei la figlia del padrone.
Situazione incandescente, ma Shanna è ben decisa a non rivelare il suo segreto.
Del resto, Ruark è solo uno schiavo, purtroppo per lei, diventa il braccio destro del padre.
Quello che è più difficile da tenere nascosto  però  è il desiderio, la passione che spinge i due l'uno verso l'altra. Shanna non può fare a meno di Ruark, né lui di lei.
Un attacco di pirati, un avventuroso viaggio nelle colonie, la verità, fino al lieto fine che vede finalmente il trionfo del loro 'amore...

Premettendo che è il mio libro preferito … lo trovo un grandioso romanzo d’amore e il più bello della Woodiwiss.
Non annoia e non confonde, la linea storica permette di vivere tutto l’amore fra Ruark e Shanna e gli incredibili colpi di scena lo rendono appassionante.

Shanna, è la solita ricca bambina viziata ed egocentrica, che sa manipolare gli uomini della sua vita, come: suo padre, Pitney il suo fedele servitore e cerca di farlo anche col suo giovane marito … fino a quando rapita dai pirati e costretta a rivedere tutto per amore di Ruark, cresce e diventa l’eroina … donna coraggiosa e donna innamorata pronta a tutto per il suo amore.

Ruark, è il tipico eroe affascinante, ironico con un carattere che non si piega pur amando Shanna con tutto se stesso, tanto da riuscire a tenerle testa … e a farla crescere e innamorare senza riserve di ciò che è e non di ciò che potrebbe rappresentare.

Kathleen E. Woodiwiss nata in Louisiana il 3 giugno del 1939 … è morta quest’anno il 6 luglio 2007 in Minnesota. E’ stata la creatrice del romanzo d’amore storico moderno, ha scritto il suo primo libro il primo anno di matrimonio mentre viveva in un avamposto militare nel Giappone all’età di 17 anni.
